Worst First Dance Songs?

Thanks for the great support from yesterday's post! I have so many great song ideas to work with and think about now! Most importantly, I think Mike and I need to think outside the box on this one, and find a first dance song that is right for us.

It got me thinking, though, about all the songs that are not right.
for anyone.
Like how about Lyle Lovett's She's No Lady (She's My Wife)?
How many blank stares and snickers would THAT one get?

Going further, Tainted Love might send the totally wrong message, obviously.

While the melody is nice, U2's Still Havent Found What I'm Looking for makes you think that first dance will be their last.

And maybe you You Cant Always What Want "but if you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need" doesn't send that mushy lovey vibe without settling.

So who's up for some fun?
What are the worst first wedding dance songs you can imagine?!

  1. The Police: Every Breath you Take

    "Every bond you break
Every step you take, I'll be watching you"

    Too creepy!

  3. Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight. Everyone loves this song, and it is very sweet but for your first dance to be a song about a guy getting falling down drunk and his lovely wife takes him home and puts him to bed... I don't know if that's the right message to start out on.

  4. Oh I almost had one a disastrous first dance song choice! I was listening to "You Were Mine" by the Dixie Chicks and I liked the melody and was getting all teary until I realized they were singing about how the woman's husband left her and the kids for another woman. Whoops.

Instead we went with "Carried Away" by George Strait. What can I say, I'm a country girl at heart.

    "Before He Cheats"- Carrie Underwood

    Tears in heaven

    "So What?" -Pink

  6. Bahaha!!! Hmm.. ok... How about Easton Corbin's I can't Love You Back. It sounds so sweet and romantic singing how much he loves this lady... Then you realize she's gone. Ooops!

Or... What the Hell by Avril Lavigne... Not the attitude you ought to have getting married! ;)

  9. This wasn't a first dance per se, but my friend told her band leader that she wanted to sing something to her husband but didn't really care what the song was. She was pretty comfortable with most of the songs in his catalog, so just told him to call her up for something appropriate. Long story short, she ended up singing "I Will Survive" to her husband on her wedding day. HAH!

  10. Oh dang, my bad. It wasn't "first dance songs that need to be retired" it was "Wedding Party songs that need to be retired." Check it: http://www.getmarried.com/wedding-blog/2011/02/11/get-married-friday-top-10-wedding-songs-that-need-to-be-retired-um-like-asap/

I vehemently disagree with #2, but pretty much am down with the rest...

  11. THIS is the only song I've ever played for Vince with the intention of making him listen because it made me think of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYxmS4UNrWY <-- Christina's "Save me from Myself." But I doubt we can dance to that...
